Take every opportunity to give credit to the great Michael Kidd, without whose choreography American musicals generally, and this one in particular, would have been 1000 times poorer. - @Friday, July 27, 2018 4:27 PM

I like the old Warner Bros. musicals (GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933, FOOTLIGHT PARADE, etc.) because they are so unmistakably WARNER BROTHERS. The MGM musicals have always left me cold. The problem being an overt GAY VIBE that has always creeped me out. Does this make me a homophobe? Who knows. The only reason that I'd ever watch this movie again is to marvel at the fact that Julie Newmar (everybody's favorite Catwoman) is a good foot taller than everybody else in the cast. - @Sunday, December 21, 2014 4:01 AM

This one of my favorite movies of all time. And I read also one of the most inspirational and influential movies for Asian martial arts filmmakers. - @Wednesday, June 5, 2013 10:37 AM

Sorry, John. Howard Keel portrayed one of the seven brothers not their father. The brothers caused the avalanche. - @Friday, May 31, 2013 11:32 PM

There are very few musicals I have actually enjoyed which include 1776, Singin' In the Rain, Ken Russell's The Boyfriend, All That Jazz (but is it really a musical?). Crybaby, and a couple others that escape my mind at the moment. Often the music gets in the way of the actual story and sometimes has nothing to do with nothing in terms of the story. The scene in Singin' In the Rain with Gene Kelly and Cyd Carisse goes on forever. I liked On the Town as well, but anything with Gene Kelly is great. - @Friday, May 31, 2013 7:23 AM
