Young writer Richard Collier is met on the opening night of his first play by an old lady who begs him to "Come back to me". Mystified, he tries to find out about her, and learns that she is a famous stage actress from the early 1900s, Elise McKenna. Becoming more and more obsessed with her, he manages, by self hypnosis, to travel back in time where he meets her. They fall in love, a matching that is not appreciated by her manager. Can their love outlast the immense problems caused by their "time" difference? And can Richard remain in a time that is not his?

A very understated and underrated movie. I am a fan of time travel movies and appreciate the difference in this film due to a lack of a spacecraft, time machine, light speed, time portal, wormhole or black hole. i saw this movie with someone she wanted me to see this movie so we end up watching together at first i thought it was just a plain or simple movie then from the middle we started to listen carefully the movie was brilliant at that time few words are coming from our mouth , and at the last chapter we barely talk i remember it was like time stop for a moment. then after the movie finally comes to the end . . it leave tears to our eyes , then we start to kiss and ther rest is history.. it was passionate and maybe it was the sweetest that was our last time that we were together. our love was right , but the time is not in our side. This movie, once time travel was achieved, was set in Summer of 1912. The movie was made in 1980. If it had been made in the late 90s, after James Cameron's Titanic, I'm sure they may have did a scene in it where the sinking of the Titanic was mentioned, because it happened only a few months previous to this time.
