Genres & Description

Action Comedy Drama

7.2 / 10

A seminal Thirty-Something movie in which a group of old college friends who are now all grown up and hardened by the big wide world come together for the funeral of Alex, a barely glimpsed corpse, who was at one time the brightest and the best of them, and yet who never managed to achieve half as much as any of the others. The friends use the occasion to reacquaint themselves with each other and to speculate as to what happened to their idealism which had been abundant when they were younger.

Seriously what's with the comments? This was a really excellent character study those who don't get it are probably way too young. Okay so I'm 31 and wasn't even born when this movie came out, but I certainly saw this when I was younger and very much appreciate it. People who actually enjoy good films and dialogue will probably like this, it's a great character piece and it's cool to see everyone's unique personalities and everybody come together after such a horrible event. It's just an easygoing cool film with an awesome soundtrack. I think the soundtrack is probably the best part of the movie in my opinion! - @Tuesday, November 13, 2018 3:03 PM

This might be the worst movie ever made. I guess the William Hurt and Meg Tilly characters are not totally lame, but where are no no-shows to this "reunion"? You'd think someone wouldnt be there either because they were too successful or too unsuccessful. And besides the two characters mentioned above, nobody has changed or moved on since college? They all just fall easily back into these relationships from their college years? Its ridiculous. - @Tuesday, August 14, 2018 6:25 PM

Just viewed this gem again and really appreciate it more than ever. A few of the actors became big stars: William Hurt, Glenn Close and Kevin Kline. All of them are excellent. This is a great example of ensemble acting at its best without car chases, vulgarity and sensationalism. Sure, it has sex but it is the PG-rated stuff; nothing explicit, most implied. See this delightful movie if you like decency, dialogue and character development. - @Tuesday, July 31, 2018 2:06 AM

I was only 17 when this Movie came out and I didn't fully understand it. It's like a fine wine it gets better with time. I now in my own way have had My "Big Chill" Weekend most notably when an Relative died, no suicides Thank God. You get together with Family, Friends, and the like talk out your issues, your life and you reconnect. Later on I wonder if The Car Scene in St. Elmo's Fire was inspired when Harold took Sam, Nick & Chloe to The Cabin. Then when The Wonder Years debuted in 1988 it was called "The Little Chill". - @Wednesday, April 4, 2018 12:33 PM

There's like one black person in the entire movie. A black child at the wake getting food. Don't even know who his parents are, because it's a White Hollywood Movie ! - @Sunday, April 1, 2018 4:10 AM
