In 1938, the young girl Liesel Meminger is traveling by train with her mother and her younger brother when he dies. Her mother buries the boy in a cemetery by the tracks and Liesel picks up a book, "The Gravediggers Handbook", which was left on the grave of her brother and brings it with her. Liesel is delivered to a foster family in a small town and later she learns that her mother left her because she is a communist. Her stepmother, Rosa Hubermann, is a rude but caring woman and her stepfather, Hans Hubermann, is a simple kind-hearted man. Liesel befriends her next door neighbor, the boy Rudy Steiner, and they go together to the school. When Hans discovers that Liesel cannot read, he teaches her using her book and Liesel becomes an obsessed reader. During a Nazi speech where the locals are forced to burn books in a bonfire, Liesel recovers one book for her and the Mayor's wife Ilsa Hermann witnesses her action. Got to say one of the best movies I have ever seen. Liesel went through a lot but she managed to live life for what it was, as it came, she appreciated what she must and lived the best she could. - @Saturday, November 3, 2018 6:55 PM

I feel bad to know that my country (Brazil) is about to have an equal regime of Hitler (Nazi / Fascist). Jair Messias Bolsonaro is a presidential candidate here in Brazil in direct consular. He has ideas just like Hitler. In the first round of the election he won 48% of the population, in the second round that will be on 28/11/2018, I hope he does not win - @Friday, October 19, 2018 8:45 PM

I read and LOVED the book, and I know that when reading a book everybody has a different view on how the characters would look etc. This trailer is nothing like I imagened it in my head. I didn't expect Liesel to be a blond girl and the colors are all so bright and shiny while the story is really sad and the people are really poor. For me it just doesn't fit. Don't think I'm going to watch the movie 'cause I'm afraid it's going to ruin the story for me. - @Friday, October 19, 2018 6:51 PM

What a great story but unbelievably sad. I thought the ending was too much; yet could be characterized of this time era of war in Germany. Agreed with the comments below about it should have been German with English subtitles. Although it might be historically realistic, I still wish this movie will have a different ending. - @Thursday, October 18, 2018 5:46 AM

I love this movie its amazing watched it 3 times and never getting bored of watching it. That girl (Liesel) is the bravest girl on earth for me and the boy (Max) is so heartwarming with Liesel I'm sad her mother couldn't keep her but the donkof (the bully) tells the girl her mother is a communist. Sadly, when her parents died I was sad. The boy (Rudy) I was so sad when he died and sadly his last word was: "i love you" unclearly. But when I noticed she married Max my heart melted, and I said: She loved that boy since the day he came!💕💕😁 - @Thursday, September 20, 2018 1:01 AM

I loved this movie...i feel so sad what happened in the 30's and 40's...so many people with stories to tell..so many people that their hearts got broken and their wings broken....Hitler hurt so many souls including his own...we are so lucky that we get to stay and see our family...breaks my heart just to think how many good souls were lost...may the lord have a special place for those who suffered in wars and those who fought in them too...R.I.P TO ALL OF YOU....WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER - @Wednesday, September 5, 2018 3:57 AM

This movie butchered the most beautiful book in the world. Not only was there not a single scene where the correct events unfolded but even the characters were all portrayed to have a different personality and nature to them which, most importantly, altered the beauty of each character and the relationships they had with each other. - @Saturday, August 11, 2018 7:53 AM

The word H.O.P.E: Hold On Pain Ends, but it didn't look like that for Liesel much in the end.... I've never watched the whole movie, but as far as I have watched it It's not fun to watch at all. At first I never knew this was a movie. I had read the book and it was sad and fascinating. But the movie doesn't have many details put in so It's kinda annoying. Don't get me wrong if you like the movie and you don't want to read the book It's okay. This book was my biggest mistake, for it as a good meaning and a bad meaning. It was so fun reading it and all but the ending killed me. I remember when I finished reading I was on vacation and having all fun and then decided to spend the rest of that day reading the book and I arrived till the end and I didn't want to read the last pages and when I did, I literally started crying....Sad but in the end everything got a little better, still it was a big plot twist for me that I couldn't take for at least a week and it didn't let me enjoy my vacation that much. By the way the book is told by death...Anyway watch the movie or the read the book if you still haven't, I've read the book long time ago just wanted to re-check it and It's awesome. <3 - @Thursday, April 26, 2018 3:32 PM
