Lena and Daniel, a young couple become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is abducted by Pinochet's secret police and Lena tracks him to a sealed off area in the South of the country, called Colonia Dignidad. The Colonia presents itself as a charitable mission run by lay preacher Paul Schäfer but, in fact, is a place nobody ever escaped from. Lena decides to join the cult in order to find Daniel. Based on true events.

The first couple to escape from the camp live in our town. They had talked to my wife of their life experiences. When the movie came out my wife realized quickly that this is their story in part. The beginnings of the colony was as very charitable institution, well run and meeting the needs of many in the area. He held a very important position. Things slowly changed to the point where their every move was being watched, and to speak with each other was dangerous. At one point they were not able to see each other for almost a year. As things escalated they feared for their lives. It was a miracle for them to escape, and as the movie indicated even the personnel in the consulate didn"t believe their story. The trailer doesn't do this movie justice, in the sense that the atmosphere of the trailer isn't representative of that of the movie. Don't bother watching this, watch the movie !
