When Thad Beaumont was a child, he had an operation to remove a tumour from his brain. during the operation, it was discovered that far from being a tumor, the growth was a twin brother of Thad's that never developed. Years later, Thad is a successful author, writing his serious books under his own name, and his pulp money-makers under the pseudonum "George Stark". When blackmailed by someone who has discovered his secret, Thad publically "buries" George Stark. From that point on, Thad increasingly becomes the prime suspect in a series of gruesome murders.

Seems this movie doesn't look same that the picture that I have of the King's book. Stark is a symbol of an ultimate killer, strong, tall, maybe a little bit invincible. Why do we have now this actor who's not at all the real Stark? Maybe the world needs now better representations of the King's book like IT, or this one. People need real King, not a pathetic representation of 1990. I saw IT, it's a good movie for 90's but instead we need a new movie. What are they waiting for new movies??? - @Sunday, December 27, 2015 7:09 PM

SPOLIER - he is the unborn twin of Thad , a ghost sort of, that started to regenerate when Thad started writing as a kid, before the weird tumor. when Thad decided to kill off his pseudonym, Stark became 'real' and wasnt happy until all to blame for 'starks' death were punished. then he started to detiriorate as his character was going unwritten, hence why he wanted Thad to help him write a new Stark novel, which would have saved him.. hope that helped, lol :) - @Monday, November 19, 2012 12:31 AM

Spirit of a twin brother that was absorbed when Thad was a baby in utero, then removed as a tumor sort of thing when he was a kid, if I remember the book/movie correctly - @Saturday, September 1, 2012 8:03 AM

People can say what they want, but this is one of my all time favorite movies. The story, the actors, the music, the incredibly creepy mood. Man, I love it. George Romero's most underrated movie. I love the book to, but for completly diffrent reasons. And Timothy Hutton's performance as both Beautmont and Stark is just amazing. - @Thursday, July 28, 2011 6:15 AM

One of the great questions of the twentieth century: Stephen King -- vile, Garth Merenghi-style bollocks or highly competent pulp author, who writes horrors no less respectably than Elmore Leonard does westerns? There's so many blatantly bad writers nowadays, I'm prepared to see him as the latter. - @Monday, April 25, 2011 4:28 PM

Very cool Horror/Thriller movie with interesting storyline and shocking death scenes. Timothy Hutton showed brilliant acting playing 2 characters - good & evil. Amy Madigan and Michael Rooker were great too. Stephen King is real master with his unique novels. I really miss the 90's - @Thursday, November 18, 2010 11:11 AM
