After the untimely death of 16-year-old Martin's father on the operating table, little by little, a deep and empathetic bond begins to form between him and the respected cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr Steven Murphy. At first, expensive gifts and then an invitation for dinner will soon earn the orphaned teenager the approval of Dr Steven's perfect family, even though right from the start, a vague, yet unnerving feeling overshadows Martin's honest intent. And then, unexpectedly, the idyllic family is smitten by a fierce and pitiless punishment, while at the same time, everything will start falling apart as the innocents have to suffer. In the end, as the sins of one burden the entire family, only an unimaginable and unendurable decision that demands a pure sacrifice can purge the soul. But to find catharsis, one must first admit the sin.

Let me save you some time because this movie is the dumbest fucking thing I've seen in a long time. Will Ferrel is a surgeon and he performed surgery on that awkward boy's father after having had a small amount of drink He may or may not have accidentally killed his father during surgery Maybe out of care or guilt...he begins to hang out with the boy and it seems the boy begins to demand more and more of his attention He invites the boy over Soon, Will's son becomes paralyzed and isn't able to work Soon, his daughter too The awkward boy tells Will he has to kill one of his family members or they'll all die Will is of course skeptical but soon the signs become clearer and clearer So...basically, Will kills his son and then the family goes to the diner where Will always meets the awkward boy And the boy sees them and sees there's one missing the movie ends.... - @Thursday, November 22, 2018 6:48 PM

This film is based on Albert Camus's interpretation of the work of Franz Kafka, presented in "The Myth of Sisyphus". In this book Camus describes human reaction to the "absurd", our inability to understand a universe that precedes human rational. Kafka according to Camus writes in his novels about the ease by which people are adapted to the absurd in social matters. The film is a version of Kafka's Metamprphosis, whose last paragraph is almost adentical to the final scene of the movie. And of course, as always, the "brilliant skilled doctor" is a man... wake me up when there's a film/show/cartoon/comic/story where the doctor is a woman. No wonder at work every day I get called a nurse like three times each day despite being a doctor, people just don't think of doctors as being female. Also it makes me so sick how male actors can be the lead of films well into their 70s while women stop being important in films after their 30s. Even a brilliant actress like Nicole Kidman is pushed to the background as someone's mother/wife and she's only 50, look at that crazy freak Tom Cruise still pushing out movies as the main character while being the same age. Such a shitty profession for women. They get thrown out so early, no matter how brilliant and talented they are.
