This movie wasn't as bad as the third installment, which literally murdered the Neverending Story movie franchise! The second movie was...weird but it did stay to the book in most cases as the first movie, which was the best hands down, focused on the first half of Michael Ende's book. The third movie was just cannon fodder and torture to the audience. The first movie I first saw in 1995, I fell in love with it and I still adore it to this day. The second movie I watched a couple of times but it didn't give the same appeal but it still got my attention. The third movie? it wanted me to throw myself out of my bedroom window! In fact when Blockbusters were still around I rented the movie with my mother in 1998, and halfway through I burst into tears...especially when it came to Falkor....my god my mother saw that it was depressing even for her!! she ended up grabbing the tape out of the VCR, throwing it down the hallway and immediately put in the original movie to cure my nerves! I recently watched this and the first 'Neverending Story' movie. They both were fun childhood movies and will always be childhood classics. I agree this film plus part 1 and even part III could use a more contemporary version. The originals were good for the times they were made but corny to an extent. For this generation 'The Neverending Story' is deserving of a fresh new version.
