At the edge of adolescence, Tracy is a smart straight-A student--if not a little naive (it seems...she smokes and she cuts to alleviate the emotional pain she suffers from having a broken home and hating her mom's boyfriend, Brady.) When she befriends Evie, the most popular and beautiful girl in school, Evie leads Tracy down a path of sex, drugs and petty crime (like stealing money from purses and from stores). As Tracy transforms herself and her identity, her world becomes a boiling, emotional cauldron fueled by new tensions between her and her mother--as well as, teachers and old friends.

Tracy comes from a Broken home with lack of respect towards her mom for dating a ex junky and feeling unwanted when it comes to her dad. I felt like in her mind hanging out with Evie waa the most fun and attention she has gotten in her life and every time she drink she gets upset and let all her anger out towards her mom and problems she's always had. Evie is is clearly a manipulator and never was a good friend. 13 is definitely a cautionary tale of the trials and tribulations of adolescence and what could happen when peer pressure , lack of self esteem, a broken home, and just wanting to fit in can lead a person who lacks self-esteem into.She lost her parent's trustworthiness, her TRUE friends, gained a bad reputation, and was held back a grade. While the "bad girl clique" that she desperately wanted to be a part of and wanted to identify with moved on with their lives.
