Carrie Watts is living the twilight of her life trapped in an apartment in 1940's Houston, Texas with a controlling daughter-in-law and a hen-pecked son. Her fondest wish -- just once before she dies -- is to revisit Bountiful, the small Texas town of her youth which she still refers to as "home." The trouble is her son, Ludie, is too concerned for her health to allow her to travel alone and her petty daughter-in-law, Jessie Mae, insists they don't have money to squander on bus tickets. This prompts "escape" attempts each month which coincide with the arrival of Mrs. Watts' Social Security check. Then, Mrs. Watts makes a successful escape and last trip home.

I'm looking for a movie quite simmilarr to this one,only the main person is a black lady(i Think) But its not the remake, cause I saw it years ago in the 90's I think. All I remember is a black lady(I think,she was black.but could be wrong)Sitting out side the ruins of a house telling another lady,about how she used to scrub the stairs in said house,I seem to recall she knew the exact number of stairs. Agree w/ organboi-awful trailer; does nothing to capture the greatness of this film. Watched it w/ a friend who had to see it for a college class; wasn't at all enthused at the prospect, but am I glad I joined him anyway. One of the best, most touching, moving films EVER.
