In a marksmanship contest, Lin McAdam wins a prized Winchester rifle, which is immediately stolen by the runner-up, Dutch Henry Brown. This "story of a rifle" then follows McAdams' pursuit, and the rifle as it changes hands, until a final showdown and shoot-out on a rocky mountain precipice.

When you have a black & white film with two great character actors like Dan Duryea sexually menacing a young Shelley Winters in front of her older parents and little brother and trying to keeping the situation from escalating- you got a western that also incorporates an element of film noir. Winters was dismissive and not pleased with the film when she saw it, which is sad because she held her own in a mostly male cast/story. *As an interesting side fact: Shelley Winters was worried upon finding out that both she and Stewart thought that their best-photographed side was their left side, but she found that Stewart would yield in their close-ups. - @Friday, January 29, 2016 3:12 PM

Me and my bro watched this like when i was 13 and he was like 7, we fell in love with this movie. This movie is more about revenge than the rifle, but its awsome how the story needs the rifle to move along, but in the end its 2 brothers 1 bad, 1 good, and some revenge.
