Wreck-It Ralph longs to be as beloved as his game's perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix. Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes... so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun, Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan -- win a medal -- but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph's only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz, a young troublemaking "glitch" from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it's "Game Over" for the entire arcade?

This movie is quite brilliant. I mean, Ralph didn't actually have any problem with being the bad guy (in his game). What he wanted was to be treated well when the job was done for the day. So, the movie made it so that Ralph remained as a bad guy (since that is necessary for the game to contiune to exist), and yet he would be treated well (which is what he deserved). - @Wednesday, March 22, 2017 5:02 AM

Seen this film probably 20 times since my first viewing of it on November 2, 2012; I think I've come to appreciate it more with each watch. I find everything from 25 minutes on to be somewhat under-appreciated (I say somewhat because there's obviously plenty of people who love the whole thing); I've read numerous people say it becomes extremely predictable or "screeches to a halt". Predictability is subjective (I found "How to Train Your Dragon", while I will admit it's a notch above this, about as predictable as I found this one, honestly), but IMO it hardly came to a halt; if anything, it finally got going. The first 20 minutes just serve to set up all of the elements that come into play later in the film (Ralph getting/losing the medal, cy-bug getting loose, Felix having to go find Ralph and meeting Calhoun, etc.) while the remainder is the real story of *SPOILERS* Ralph's quest to get back his medal transforming into a quest to save Vanellope's life *END SPOILERS*. I personally get a kick out of "Sugar Rush" as a send-up of uber-cuteness, which actually sort of ties into the plot: *SPOILER* It was the perfect place for Turbo to take over, since none of the other video game characters would ever spend time in such a girly game, and thus no one would be able to rat him out *END SPOILER*; and the world-building from the first 20 minutes continues there as well (mini-games, unfinished levels, the game's intricate code). Though to be honest, there's a couple of crude gags that sort of brought it down a little, a few scenes (particularly the Laffy Taffy one) weren't distinctively video-game-like, and there could've been a few candy gags dropped in favor of a few more gaming gags than we got. But I still really like how the film turned out, and it'll be fun to look back on as a sort of "wild card" film situated between the more traditional "Tangled", "Winnie the Pooh" and "Frozen". (And yeah, I know that like virtually every other animated film released these days, it's not "The Lion King". I don't care, I still like it.) - @Thursday, January 9, 2014 7:20 AM
