Action Drama

7.0 / 10

A successful artist looks back with loving memories on the summer of his defining year, 1974. A talented but troubled 18-year-old aspiring artist befriends a brilliant elderly alcoholic painter who has turned his back on not only art but life. The two form what appears to be at first a tenuous relationship. The kid wants to learn all the secrets the master has locked away inside his head and heart. Time has not been kind to the old master. His life appears pointless to him until the kid rekindles his interest in his work and ultimately gives him the will to live. Together, they give one another a priceless gift. The kid learns to see the world through the master's eyes. And the master learns to see life through the eyes of innocence again. This story is based on a real life experience.

Saw this movie. It got an "R" rating thanks to all the "F bombs." Lousy movie. Some of the artwork was beautiful, but the movie itself stunk!! - @Thursday, May 10, 2018 4:05 PM

Ultra-conservative anything makes problems for those who aren't. - @Thursday, July 4, 2013 10:38 PM

well yeah, christians/catholics are idiots who believe in a non-existent sky wizard who hates homosexuals, and rape little boys in churchs - @Tuesday, March 26, 2013 7:56 AM

Hi Hammer: I don't have a problem with nudity. My mom and my stepdad are nudists (not a pretty picture), and I have taken plenty of figure drawing classes. I just prefer a drama as opposed to an action-adventure movie. Just my preference. I could have easily said, "What? No car chases, aliens, karate chops or explosions?" I have no moral objections to those either. I just find them boring. I like a good STORY. (But is sounds to me like you have something against ultra-conservative Christians. ) - @Sunday, March 24, 2013 2:58 PM

looks like a good movie, except, just from seeing this trailer, I can't help but see this kid as a whiny-person who thinks he can instantly leanr to paint or soemthing. How about he tries on his own first. I had to teach myself to self paint, and I just find it weird...maybe because in the trailer he showed no previous attempts of trying. thats like trying to run a marathon w/o trying. you'll fail. - @Friday, November 19, 2010 11:33 PM

Just watched this movie last night. Loved it! It really spoke to me, especially when the Seroff and John characters speak about art and the process of creating. I just ordered the last copy from the big on-line store. I think George Gallo created the paintings used in the film. If you read this George---they are inspiringly (is that a word?) beautiful, as is your film. Namaste - @Tuesday, August 17, 2010 4:16 PM

This lively film is the "Karate Kid" of art-making of any kind, tho especially thorough for me as a painter. Takes no prisoners, censors no real-life words, and even shows the process of painting in a new light--- much as "Madame Sousatzka" taught music--- it is to celebrate living. Thank you, George Gallo. - @Saturday, April 3, 2010 6:19 AM

A wonderful movie by a genuine story teller, George Gallo. See this movie with your family, as a couple or on your own...you may learn something about yourself... In our culture where the media is constantly screaming for our attention here is a quite and beautiful film with a timley message of wisdom passed down to the next generation.... It's a powerful message that needs to be heard always... Bravo! - @Saturday, September 29, 2007 11:03 PM
