I'm looking for a d day movie movie  . It mosly of them on the beach and trying to get boats back to England . There a lot of scene of them casually talking on the beach an time to time jumping on the floor when the german come over shooting . Forget the name of it . If anyone has a list of movies made on d day in the 60s could you reply . Watched it a few years ago on tv and never finished it - @Thursday, December 31, 2015 8:40 AM

Oh well, as long as only "racists" (Eugenicists) perished, what the hell... I mean, wearing a Nazi uniform, or an American uniform, does not make a person good, or evil.... for many went to war to fight for Cesar, and not for the Israel of God... likewise many do not care when "black" men are discriminated against (Eugenics promoted) in their respective lands... they would rather serve satan than the Israel of God.... The logical consequence of a belief in a "race of people" defined by bloodlines, is WAR... slavery.... looking upon others as a "resource"... breeding programs... This word RAPE... is not found in the Bible (kjv)... It is a man-made word, and not a word found in the Bible (kjv)... Rearrange the letters, and you get REAP... See, Eugenics? ... So, one can only hope that WW2 was not about "killing Jews" but about killing evil persons, irrespective of their national identity cards... For why would God allow this bloodshed to happen? - @Thursday, June 11, 2015 7:54 PM

Battles are fought in very specific places.... Does it not strike others as suspicious that site that was chosen was essentially a killing-field? It was as if those guys were sent to their deaths, by the governments of Germany and England, as if they knew what they were doing --- deliberately reducing the male population..... Two in the movie... the characters played by Henry Fonda, and John Wayne... carry canes... are slow to arrive... but eh, do not question their "patriotism" or "intentions"... "Sir, I think we were supposed to land over there, where all those other guys are getting killed... should we move to that part of the beach?".... "Umm, no, the reinforcements will have to follow us, no matter where we are... so let us continue from here".... Sounds like a plan... - @Thursday, June 11, 2015 7:48 PM

You notice that the trailers have the Germans speaking English but in the movie they are speaking German I guess to give it more realism.  The trailers were in English probably to attract more causal war movie fans. I've always hated war movies where the "enemy" like Germans or Japs are speaking English when in reality they didn't speak English amongst each other. The most horrible war movie with enemies speaking English was with Jude Law as a Russian sniper and Ed Harris as a German Sniper as well. Both spoke the broken English. Just horrible. At least in Valkyrie Tom Cruise is speaking German in the beginning and it casually turns into English, giving the viewers time to realize he really is speaking German but its in English for us dummies to understand. - @Sunday, February 15, 2015 4:27 PM

My Dad was an Army Ranger who landed on Normandy Beach at Pointe du Hoc in France on D-Day, and he loved this movie. He wasn't concerned with its slight inaccuracies, he thought it was a fine retelling of the event in chronological time. He said the way they showed the landing on the beaches was very accurate. He also served as a technical military adviser on Steven Spielberg's SAVING PRIVATE RYAN in 1998, and he said the realism in that movie was incredible. - @Monday, June 9, 2014 12:27 AM

I remember very well watching it, expecting that the landing of the 3rd Canadian Division would rate a scene, especially since they were the only allied forces to reach their D-Day+1 objectives. Instead they mentioned Canadians once, when a British staff officer pores over a map and says something along the line of "the British and Canadians to the north". Face it, the producer Zanuck - not a stupid man - edited out Canada. It was no oversight. - @Friday, July 19, 2013 7:48 AM

@ brionatic - you're absolutely right! Having a minor character speak the words "the British and Canadians" and putting a small Canadian flag on a map in the background served very well to depict the combat achievement of the 3rd Canadian Division at Juno Beach! Why didn't I see that before? Puh-lease... Face it, Zanuck edited out the Canadians deliberately. It was no oversight. He was not a stupid man. - @Wednesday, June 5, 2013 6:01 AM

Montgomery wisely increased the forces and landing beaches the allied planners would use and then entirely underestimated the strength of the opposition at Canne. Later stating his plan was to draw the main strength of the German forces which was correct, but I do not believe he originally expected it to be so tough. D Day was a truly allied achievement with forces great and small drawn from all over the British Commonwealth as well as the US, Britain itself, France and other European countries. - @Wednesday, April 24, 2013 8:06 PM

I haven't seen it in decades, when I was a kid. I just caught the last 20 minutes of it--most while listening from the kitchen--and was surprised at the blatant overacting (especially John Wayne, playing--who else?--John Wane), and cheesy dialogue. - @Sunday, February 17, 2013 1:32 AM

Longest Day is just about Operation: Neptune, the actual landings, not the entire Battle of Normandy, everyone knows after they got off the beach the Americans ran smack into the Hedgrows and it took until July 25th to breakout of the area when Operation: Cobra was launched, while the British and Canadians ran smack into the 21st Panzer Division outside Caen which took them until August to finally take the city and break out - @Friday, November 9, 2012 9:01 AM

this baby surprised me how good it was with its swarm of known faces disturbing the real look, the german stuff is astonishingly good and even the plethora, stickily sweet ladling on of all the american cameos almost works. As usual Mitchum turns in the most convincing job with oddly enough Richard Behmer good, leaving the Overacting to Richard Burton. Rod Steiger has a sequence especially good. Somehow Zanuck made the bloody thing ALmost work, and it really is a wonderful movie. - @Wednesday, February 22, 2012 8:33 PM
